Kettering Becomes 45th Power a Clean Future Ohio Community Signifying its Commitment to Clean, Sustainable Energy
The City of Kettering announced that it will become the 45th Ohio community to signify its commitment to improving sustainability and reducing emissions by joining Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO). The Kettering City Council recently established sustainability as a priority concern for the community, and it has worked to develop programs and infrastructure to move the city toward greater reliance on and access to clean energy. Becoming a partner community with PCFO will ensure that Kettering government entities, businesses, schools, and residents have access to programs and funding opportunities that will make sustainability attainable.
“Taking the important step of joining PCFO solidifies our commitment to pursuing clean and sustainable practices whenever possible,” said Kettering Mayor Peggy Lehner. “We look forward to engaging with PCFO at every step of our journey in order to take advantage of its resources and expertise as we work toward a cleaner, safer, and more efficient future.”
“I could not be more excited to welcome the City of Kettering as the newest PCFO community. Together, we will work to connect the entire community with the tools and resources they need to access and implement clean energy solutions that are achievable, measurable, equitable, and economical,” said PCFO Executive Director Joe Flarida.
Kettering prioritizes the incorporation of environmentally sustainable practices and cost-effective initiatives. Examples of these efforts include the installation of electric vehicle charging stations at Delco Park, Kettering Recreation Center, and the Government Center. Similarly, the city is actively pursuing electric and gas aggregation opportunities aimed at lowering costs for residents and businesses alike. Finally, the city has committed to hosting EcoFest – a free (and waste-free) event where residents can learn about recycling and composting, test drive electric vehicles, hear about available renewable energy options, and get updates on existing conservation efforts.
Partnering with PCFO will provide Kettering with access to expert guidance and up-to-date information about available funding opportunities, including federal grants and matching funds, that will make it possible for the city to expand its sustainability efforts and reach its clean energy goals.
Kettering joins 44 other Ohio communities that have committed to joining PCFO, meaning more than one-third of Ohio’s residents currently live in PCFO-member communities.
