Power a Clean Future Ohio Unveils Community Choice Aggregation Toolkit to Empower Local Governments

(Columbus, OH) – Power a Clean Future Ohio (PCFO) is excited to announce the release of its Community Choice Aggregation (CCA) Toolkit. This toolkit is a comprehensive guide on renewable energy aggregation programs designed to support local government officials and staff. It explains the basics of aggregation, navigates the process for establishing a 100% renewable aggregation program, and provides local examples and references to help municipalities ensure success.

The CCA Toolkit, developed by PCFO's lead technical advisers and consultants, includes step-by-step instructions, case studies, and best practices drawn from successful aggregation programs across the state. It also offers guidance on stakeholder engagement, legal considerations, and strategies for maximizing the environmental and economic benefits of aggregation programs.

“Aggregation is a cost-effective approach that we can take to not only reduce emissions but also make energy more affordable,” said Jon-Paul d’Aversa, Senior Energy Policy Advisor for PCFO and Principal of UNPREDICTABLEcity. “Across Ohio, communities are choosing aggregation to lower their emissions and drive economic progress while providing good governance, local control, and consumer protection,” he added.

As part of PCFO’s work to support communities across the state in implementing carbon reduction plans, the nonprofit provides tools, resources, and technical assistance to local governments and leaders. The CCA Toolkit is the latest resource in PCFO’s comprehensive suite of support materials, designed to empower local leaders to reduce emissions and enhance community resilience.

“As a member of the City Council for the City of Gahanna, I am thrilled to see the incredible work Power Clean Fuel Ohio is doing in guiding us through the renewable energy aggregation program, shared Councilmember Stephen Renner. “Their expertise and commitment are invaluable as we strive to provide our residents with sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions. This partnership marks a significant step forward in our journey towards a cleaner, greener future for Gahanna.”

PCFO Executive Director Joe Flarida emphasized the importance of local leadership and consumer choice, “Electric aggregation for renewable energy is the number one policy recommendation we provide to any local government leader that is serious about reducing emissions and giving their residents a real choice in their energy future. This toolkit empowers communities with the knowledge and resources they need to take control of their energy futures to meaningfully reduce emissions and promote sustainability.”

The release of the CCA Toolkit marks a significant milestone in PCFO’s mission to drive clean energy adoption and carbon reduction across Ohio. With this new resource, Ohio’s local governments are better equipped to implement effective and impactful renewable energy programs that benefit their communities.
